This is just the second version of my “Overcome Arachnophobia” project, due to many comments I’ve received on “Overcome Arachnophobia” app, so I remake it by changing the Graphic user interface, fixing some bugs, and I also changed my images hosting to U.S location for faster images loading on my latest version.
Arachnophobia or arachnephobia is a specific phobia, the fear of spiders and other arachnids such as scorpions. The word is from Greek, aráchnē (ἀράχνη), meaning “spider”, and phóbos (φόβος), meaning “fear”.
Signs and symptoms: People with arachnophobia tend to feel uneasy in any area they believe could harbor spiders or that has visible signs of their presence such as webs. When arachnophobics see a spider, they may not enter the general vicinity until they have overcome the panic attack that is often associated with their phobia. Some people scream; some cry or have emotional outbursts. They may experience trouble breathing, sweating or even heart palpitations when they come in contact with an area near spiders or their webs. In some extreme cases, even a picture or a realistic drawing of a spider can also trigger intense fear. Though many arachnids are harmless, a person with arachnophobia may still panic or feel uneasy around one. Sometimes, even an object resembling a spider may trigger a panic attacking in an arachnophobia individual. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arachnophobia)
In this application, I’m using “Exposure therapy”, a technique in behavior therapy used to treat anxiety disorders. It involves exposure to the feared object or context without any danger, in order to overcome anxiety.
HOW TO USE THIS APPLICATION
It is very simple. In the main screen, there are only two buttons. The first button is “NEW”, Just click it to change to the new scene. The second button is “SAVE & EXIT”, it helps you quickly move to your current stage after closing and re-open the application.
The spider images will be loaded into the screen. All you have to do is touching and erasing the images by your finger.
You will start with some friendly drawing spiders, they’re really not scary at all in the first levels and you will end with the true monsters at the higher levels.
After finishing your work, just click “NEW”; when you are ready. The next spider will appear in the screen and just repeat your whole work, step by step, to the last one. It will help you curing Arachnophobia, gradually.
